damien/pagefault's clam/amavis installed Ok.
Jesper's SA install script failed (hacked to fool the script into thinking it was 6.0)

Notice that an updated SA is installed anyway (as it was with 6.0) but not started by default. Do I need an old forum entry that reminds me how to start SA in 6.0 or are there further plans.

Also there is a problem with Jesper's otherwise excellent work in that if you use the server as a delegate mail server you want to run RBL & SA at the SMTP level ahead of clam and simply have it delete stuff above X, tag stuff between Y and X and forward it or forward anything below Y untouched. SA configured Jesper's way tags it OK but does not delete anything.

Have been searching for a way to do this for some time. Anyone done it or know how ?

After a clean install to a raid1 system, ran all of greg's update scripts without any problems
http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/SME6.5UpdateScripts

also ran swerts-knudsen's AV script without any problem
lynx -dump http://sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/downloads/AntiVirus/antivirus_install.sh | sh

I second the earlier post regarding spam assassin.  Would love to get swets-knudsen's script working, but does it interfere with the existing spam assassin rpm?

Also installed dmay's raid monitor, seems to work:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/smeserver/contribs/index.php?subdir=dmay%2Fsmeserver%2F5.x%2Fcontrib%2Fraidmonitor&sortby=name

going to keep trying with other contribs..

Hi all,

Thanks very much for your experiences and feedback. By the way, I have a test box with SME 6.5 Beta2 but only for doing the Portuguese translation now. I will announce it when it is done. :)

Let’s go back to the main topic again. I think we all should reproduce the experiences stated on the following forum threads and wikipages and try to be sure that with 6.5 Beta2 everything is OK now:

SME Server 6.5 Beta1 Contribs Compatibility Issues
SME Server 6.5 Beta1 First Experiences
SME 6.5 Update Scripts by Greg  Swallow - Forum Thread
SME 6.5 Update Scripts by Greg  Swallow - WikiPage
SME 6.5 Update Scripts by Greg Swallow and Stefan Braunstein - Forum Tread

How to Install/Upgrade to Horde 3.0
PHP 4.3.10 Update Script
How to Upgrade to NetaTalk-2.0.2
Repeating Emails on SME 6.0 IMAP + Clam/Amavis

Although almost of the previous links are not directly related with the SME Server 6.5 Beta2 (because we are talking here about Contribs compatibility mainly) I think we all agree that our feedback on these important issues will be very important to the SME 6.5 Final release.

Thanks in advanced to all of you,

This is a fresh install of SME v6.5 beta2
added users, I inadvertantly hit the remove link on one of the users, so had to recreate the user.
I now get this message

Operation status report
Error: the account "peter" can't be created because there is already a user-deleted account of that name.

What needs to be done to correct this

Hi All,

I was testing/updating my ASSP anti-spam howto on 6.5b and ran into a problem right off the bat that someone might be able to help me with.

ASSP is a SMTP proxy.  In the past, I modified the /etc/services file (custom template) so that SME listened on port 125 instead of 25.  Then installed the proxy to listen on 25.  I have lots of SME servers in production with ASSP.

My problem is that (apparently) with 6.5b, simply modifying the /etc/services SMTP entry is no longer sufficient to make the SME server listen on port 125.  After rebuilding /etc/services and restarting services (even rebooting), SMTP is still active on port 25...like it completely ignores the /etc/services mod.

Is there, perhaps, a new database entry or something to make this mod?

Thanks for any insight you might provide.

'day all

Tried the smeserver-6.5beta2-i386.iso in an attempt to upgrade my 6.0b3 installation.  Note, this is an upgrade not a fresh install.

The 6.5b3 got past the language selection, past the keyboard selection, past the agree to licence section, loaded the Anaconda stuff, but then crapped out.

It claimed it was probably a corrupt iso, but I have checked the md5 and reburned the cd, even replaced the cd drive, so it is definitely not that.

Some (type in) excerpts from the failure follow:

Traceback (innermost last):
  File "/usr/bin/anaconda", line 364 in ?
    intf.run(id, dispatch, configFileData)
File "/usr/lib/anaconda/text.py:, line 412, in run

File "/usr/lib/anaconda/text/mitel_text.py", line 561, in __call__

Although the upgrade option is offered, 6.5b2 is not designed to do an update of any version. But some people have successfully updated from 6.0 and 6.01.

Let me correct that just a bit.  6.5b2 will upgrade a clean SME Server 6.0.1 or a clean Mitel 6.0 install.

It will clearly break some contribs, and there are no plans to do upgrades from prior betas at this point.

Hope this helps,

So I need to upgrade first to 6.0.1 and then do the upgrade to 6.5b2?  Is that correct and supported?

Did you find a way to start the SA that comes installed on the beta.  I have added spammassassin as a server and set the status to enabled, but don't see any changes.
/sbin/e-smith/config show spamassassin
spamassassin=service
    status=enabled

I didn't see any actions or events to run as well.
What more must I do to activate this and test it?

Thanks,

fyi..for anyone else testing this.  I did manage to get the service to start by doing this:

/sbin/e-smith/config set Spamassassin service
/sbin/e-smith/config setprop Spamassassin status enabled
ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/e-smith-service S90spamassassin

But, I am stuck from there.  Someone in the know, do I need to set something similiar to what is set on my 6.01-01 server?
i.e.

/sbin/e-smith/config setprop InternalInterface InternalInterfacesFilter SOMETHING
/sbin/e-smith/config setprop InternalInterface EnternalInterfacesFilter SOMETHING

Thanks for the help.

partitions on sme 6.5beta2
« Reply #20 on: February 18, 2005, 06:50:54 AM »
I just installed sme6.5b2 using software RAID1 on a old IBM PII 233MHz 2x4.2Gb with 96Mb RAM and surprisingly it installed OK, about 30 minutes to install and 10 minutes to configure. Only problem encountered was it did not like the on board NIC which supposedly is supported ie Intel 82557 e100 driver, it identified it correctly but would just not proceed past that driver selection screen. The message was "Unknown" driver. I shutdown & plugged in a PCI NIC Intel 100 card and it then worked OK & allowed the configuration to complete.

Reviewing the disk space and partition sizes I see the following. I get 2.6Gb of usable space out of the 4.2Gb on the disk(s).
It looks like 1Gb of space is used in another partition.

Can anyone more knowlegable in partitions and what to expect with sme 6.5 please comment. Is 2.6Gb as much space as I will "get" out of these drives ?

Thanks

Hi

One thing I am finding with 6.5b2 is that adding domains times out. This is a reasonably fast 3.2Ghz machine with dual sata raid disks. It now has about 150 domains on it (so that won;t help :-}).

When I add a domain and have top running, S55tinydns  runs for about 10 minutes at 99% CPU before finally dissapearing. The httpd.conf is rebuilt for the ibay but not when the domain is added and I have to manually expand it. The domain appears to be added correctly everywhere else.

Any ideas (besides the cron job I have set to run every 10 minutes to expand the httpd.con file)

kevin

Sorry to ask the developers (shad, charlie, michael, greg), but where are the changelog and the changed_rpms files of the RC1 release?

These files used to be on this directory:

Where are they now?

I upgraded a small SME6.0 server to new hardware running SME6.5RC1.  I used the backup to desktop feature.

The upgrade went very smooth, though the server is only used as a gateway and file server.

I especially like the LogWatch utility, which showed up in my inbox this morning...

Great work.

Quick question:

Is the current 6.5 development/release candidate the same as the port to Centos project?

I have used e-smith since 4.1.2 and currently administer 7 6.0.1 SME servers.  If the current 6.5 development is seperate from the port to Centos effort, what will this mean to this forum?  I would appreciate any input regarding the possible upgrade options for the 6.0.1..

Thanks,

Ryan,

No - 6.5 isn't Centos it's all RHlegacy7.3.

The main programmer S(had)Lords has something going on at lordsfam.net
he also said (in this very thread):
Quote
Upgrading is only supported for unmodified 6.0 or 6.0.1 installations.
There are many contribs out there that have templates that
will cause problems with the way many of the services are being handled now.

NOTE:
SMESERVER 7.0alpha3 -afaik- the (sole) work of
Charlie Brady is based on Centos 3.4
and available at the (old) e-smith depositories namely:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/e-smith/devel/isos/

Regards
Reinhold

P.S.: 7.0alpha3 runs beautifully here and it's (finally) got a kernel (&stuff) that's working at year 2004+ hardware
- no complaint here, I am always greatful for the work, just plain enthusiasm  8-)  8-)  8-)

I was not able to get this build to detect or install NIC drives for the three systems that I tested it on. Two of teh systems were ASUS 1U rack mounted servers and the third was an industrial PC. All three had giga-bit NICS. I tried to insstall the drivers from a console and had no luck. When I did the same test with SMEV7-alpha3 everything worked.
