IBM Domino (aka Lotus Notes) and SME
« on: February 17, 2005, 09:08:28 PM »
I have an SMEserver as a server and gateway, and then another SME just running Notes. Internally it works fantastically, but external users who VPN to the gateway, then connect to the notes server find that things take ages (2-4 minutes to login to Notes, 2 seconds when connected internally).

All connected by 512/256 ADSL.

The notes server has 512Mb RAM, perhaps it needs more - anyone any ideas?

Are you using the ip of the notes server in the connection document in the users personal address book?

yes i believe so (i am not the notes expert).

More info:
When I run "top" on the Notes server during the login I can see the notes server daemon taking about 30% of the memory.

Notes (like exchange) loves ram but I don't think this is your problem.
Just a thought. Can you forward the tunnel to the SME server that runs notes. It would be interestig to see if that makes a difference.

Otherwise, make sure the clients are using the ip and not the hostname of the notes server. I can show you how to check if you tell me what version of notes the clients are.
