ssh times out
« on: February 20, 2005, 02:01:05 AM »
Hello !

I just moved my sme 6.01 from my home to my friends house, because he has a really good 4 MBS symetric line. (I hust have 10 % of that speed out.)

It works great exept for when I now log in via ssh, the connection is now timed out after a few minutes. (If not used.)

Is this normal behaviour ? Is it possible to configure it in such a way that a remote session via ssh is not timed out so suddenly. (When I had it on my lan I could be logged on for hours.)

Don't know for sure if such a "auto log of" og the ssh connection is a normal behaviour, or if I could have done some bad configuration of router/firewall at my friends house. (??)

Best reg Arne.

I found this guide about configuring the ssh demon, but is it anything here that will make a auto log off if the connection first is established and then not used for a while ?

http://www.faqs.org/docs/securing/chap15sec122.html

(And then it is the other story about the sme and the templates, but just now I do not know if it is the server itself or the connection via Internet that brake the connection.)

I haven´t that speed, mine is a 1 Mbs, but i´m disconected to (from the outside) but in the Lan i stay open the conecction for days... so i guess that if it is from the outside, it is normal!

So, it's "normal" that it should time out .. nice to know as I then don't have to perform troubleshooting for a "real" fault.

Will still try to find out how to avoid the time out.

I am using ssh tunneling via ssh for administration via /server-manager. This works great, exept for the time out (If you don't use the connection for a short while.)

Also backup to workstation works ok. The connection is not timed out before the backup is finished. It then times out after the backup is finished.

It workes not so bad, but I would still like to have the full controll over the time out period or the ability to disable this security function.

Thanks for your help :-)

By the way .. there is a posibility to adjust "LoginGraceTime". I don't know if this has to to with the time that will pass for a logout auto or not (???) (Or is it just the time it wait for the password to be approved.)

The problem vere solved by defining the externeal clien as a part of the "local network" via /server-manager. Seems to be no more auto log off any more :-)
