Topic: Receving mail from a mailing list for a user fails

Hi,

I am a novice to SME server, and I have read the forums and the manuals but I am unsure how to solve this problem.

Basically I have mail arriving from a mailing list, the SME server picks it up OK via POP3 from my ISP, but fails to recognise which user it is for and delivers it to admin (rather than bounce the email).

I was expecting it to arrive at the 'douglas' account as it is an alias for douglas.pearless@pearless.co.nz.  All other mail to douglas.pearless@pearless.co.nz works just fine.

Have I missed something???

You're right about cfg/arch/avr.h.

cfg/arch/avrpio.h is included by the cfg/arch/avr.h.

I know that multi-drop can have probelms sending list message to the right person as the are usually address to the list in the from line.

From your message header it appears that you are using fetch-mail?  It also appears that you are also using multi-drop?  I know when I configured the fetchmail after installing it, that the instructions mentioned that you need to switch the e-mail settings to multi-drop to change the settings for when the e-mail would be retrieved then you should change the settings back to smtp.

I am not sure, but that may be your problem.  Sorry, I am also new to sme.

I tried that, no luck.  Does anyone have the system using multidrop correctly processing in bound exmails from an external mailing list a user is subscribed to???

sometimes, depends on the mailinglist

if list mail is sent to admin, you could forward admin mail to a user, and use userpanel/procmail to forward list mail to the correct user

Hi Stephen,

I ended up purchasing your email management extensions, then I fowarded all admin mail to myself and that causes it to work.

I will probably try to create a dummy email account, forward to that instead, and then figure out how to get procmail to foward to the appropriate people.

create a rule to forward mail
probably based on subject [mylist] to userA
