Kernel Sources ??

I need a clear answer on this issue of kernel version in SME Server 5.0. The FAQ states: "Red Hat Linux Version 7.1 and SME Server 5.0 both use the 2.2.19-7kernel."

The the kernel version installed in the download copy of RH 7.1 is 2.4.2-2 with no option or mention of the 2.2.19-7 kernel. I read elsewhere in the phorum that the 2.2.19-7 kernel source is located in the kernel-source binary RPM. I have looked into the RPM on the CD and I cannot locate any source for the 2.2.19-7 kernel. I suspect the the RPM on the RH FTP site is the same.

So what gives?? I need to compile the drivers for a Proxam Symphony wireless network card (PCI) which requires that I have the proper headers installed for the kernel. I have installed RH 7.1 on a spare i586 machine to use as a development platform to create the binaries but I need to get this kernel issue resolved first. I could probably find a way to figure it out but I was hoping someone could save me the time.

I plan on making the driver binaries availible (RPM) for SME Server 5.0 if anyone needs them. If someone could tell me how the development environment should be set up, kernel sources mostly, it would be a great help. I guess the better question is "How did you compile the 2.2.19-7 kernel in SME Server 5.0? The FAQ just sent me on a wild goose chase!"

Thanks,

Like you I was puzzled by the statement that RH 7.1 and SME 5 both use the same kernel version as I have always only ever seen RH 7.1 with a 2.4.x kernel. Being fairly new to linux, I am hazarding a guess that SME 5 is still actually based on RH 7.0 with just an updated kernel.

If you need original 2.2.19 kernel headers, perhaps it's available at the www.kernel.org ?

All of the mirror copies of kernel-source-2.2.19-7.0.8.i386.rpm  seem to have fallen off the face of the earth.  Perhaps rightly so if this is related to the recent mysterious security fix http://www.securityfocus.com/news/274 where the details are being withheld, at least from US viewers.   Regardless, I hope that Mitel will soon get available binaries and sources in sync in case someone cares to hold them to the letter of the GPL which specifcally requires that availbility.
