Sound support within SME?!
« on: March 09, 2005, 01:37:16 PM »
Hello community,

I've got a question as I'm a Newbie with SME-server, but a little bit experienced with Linux.
I'm sure it is possible to integrate sound support on an SME machine, because it is basically a "normal" Linux box.
I don't want to test everything out so maybe someone can tell me what I have to install to integrate an ALSA-package to run my soundcard on the server. I simply want to use it to play warning sounds etc.

I hope you can help me with this problem.

Greetz,
Heiko

Hi Heiko,

The is just my advice. Pull the sound card out or deactivate in bios or on the motherboard if it's onboard.

You not need sound, just keep a close eye on your logs etc. And this will save on resources for other hardware.

Sure. I use my own SME Server and some of my customera servers to play mp3s for the "Hold the line" music of their phone box.
