Topic: Removing e-smith

Could anyone tell me what the proper procedure is to remove e-smith 5.0 from a harddrive?

I installed a copy of e-smith 5.0 on my regular machine to check it out now that I want to remove it, I have run into a couple of problems. I have managed to remove the partions with a little trial and error, but now every time the machine boots I get a LI showing in the botom corner of the screen and my Windows installation will not boot.

I have searched for any information but have come up blank. I would appreciate any suggestions made but remember my grasp of Linux is very basic.

Boot using a DOS/Win setup floppy and run fdisk /mbr to restore the MS Master Boot Record.  Part of LILO is installed there, which is why you're getting the LI.

I understand that your problem
is the fact that there is still a last bit of the installation on
your harddisk. I think your master boot record (mbr) is the
problem. I had the same problem once. I had Linux installed and
later removed from my harddisk and I couldn't install windows
or use fdisk (of DOS).

In the bios there is an option "low level format". After I'd run
this procedure (it takes a while) and start-up my pc with an
start-up flop with cd-rom support I could get acces to the
installationdisk of windows 95 and install my windows again after using
fdisk to make a partion and after formatting (format c: /s)
I'm sure there is an other and maybe easier way to solve
your problem but this procudere worked for me. You can acces
the BIOS by pressing de DELETE key when the PC is starting up.
