I need to change the umask for a couple of users. I am not sure where to adjust the settings.

6 people/PC's are member of a domain, I-Bay of files,

when 2 of the users create files/directories within the I-Bay, the rest of the group can not work on them, i.e. They are unable to save, only the owner is given write permission.

Whereas the other 4 people when they create files/directies everyone can access the files and folders, which is what i want. basically just want to make these 2 accounts behave like the rest.

really appreciate any help :)

thanks

Michael

Not knowing how you are set up, but here are a couple of things to check.

1. have you created a group for the users to be a member of, or

2. Have you given ownership of the ibay to everyone, and allowed for group to both read and write.

These can be handeled through server-manager

firstly thanks Bob for the reply :)

yeah when i created the users, i added them to the group . the group settings are fine, checked in console, just the permissions,

I didn't check the permissions on the actual i-bay. seeing as though they could read, write and execute. i presumed that they should be fine.

The problem is that the 2 new users i have created have to tight permissions, and not letting their files be written to by others is the group, whereas the existing group members files could be written to by whole group

How about deleting those 2 new users and recreating them and making them member of the groups you want.
That should set the rights the way it should be.

Remember to make a backup of the homedirectory of the users you delete.

What OS, programs and method of file access are these various people using?

There is only 1 group, when either of these 2 users creates something the group write permission is missing.

I have a script that is going through and doing a recursive chmod'ing of the i-bay, for g+w and that works, but would like to be able to fix their mask so it actually creates the files with ug+rwx

thnx for all the help :)

If you'd like to fix the problem, let's determine first exactly what the problem is. I've asked a series of questions above, it would be useful for you to answer them.

Even better; report your problem in detail to the bug tracker.
