Unsupported NIC, disable? HOW?
« on: March 19, 2005, 09:14:15 AM »
I have bought a HP Proliant ML110 server, the server is equipped with a onboard NIC (Broadcom 5705 PCI Gigabit NIC).

When I try to install SME 6.5 RC1 the installation will only give me the opportunity to select the onboard NIC (Unknown to SME) and the NIC in the first PCI slot.

I have tried to install four different supported NIC in all four PCI slots, but it seems that SME always look onboard and then in first slot.

Is there any way to install the Broadcom 5705 PCI Gigabit NIC or to force SME to skip the onboard?

Not sure if this will assist you, however my server under the BIOS Settings (DEL key at startup) has the option to enable or disable LAN - which is the onboard Network Card.

Use Smartstart from HP/Compaq to interogate the BIOS & see if this can be done; latest version can be found:

Could you describe what you actually see? What does the console say when you try to configure the LAN NIC?
