Topic: Tape Backup

I decided it was time to be more pro-active toward securing the data on my SME Server and aquired a 12/24Gb SCSI DAT Tape Drive for Backups.

I Installed the Drive and an Adaptec 29xx PCI SCSI Card.

When I run a backup, I get the following from the logs
e-smith[4453]: Running event handler: /etc/e-smith/events/pre-backup/S50rewind-tape
e-smith[4453]: /dev/nst0: No such device

The dmesg log suggest it is finding the card but not the drive. I know the drive and card work fine in Windoze. The Drive is brand new.

Seems I have more config to do than I thought . Can someone point me in the direction of some good detailed info to get me going please.

I have googled but being a bit of a novice, it sort of like information overload...

BTW - I am running SME V6 and the Drive is an HP SureStore DAT24

modprobe aic7xxx

It will load the SCSI-controller and what device is attached and what the ID of the device is.

Now stop you backup service en restart.
Try to run a backup and see what happens.

Ok - that was simple and did the trick nicely however it does not remain between reboots.

Where would be a good place to add that so it remains and is functional between reboots. ?
