Connect to SME Printer using Macintosh client
« on: April 13, 2005, 01:20:20 AM »
I use 6.0 as our file/web/email server and I have sundry 6.0 and 6.5 machines working as print servers, but one thing I can't work out is how to share these printers using apple talk.

I have a worker who uses OSX and we just can't get him connected to any printer - anyone know any tricks?

Thanks - by the way - for such a great distro.

AppleTalk is probably not the way to go. Nigel Gent contributed sections about Mac OS X for some documents I wrote about CUPS, an alternative printing system for SME Server, and he was unable to get AppleTalk printing to work. The section that Nigel wrote about printing through Samba to a raw printer queue on the server should be relevant not only to CUPS, but to the standard SME printing system as well. You can find it in this document: http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/rvandenaker/beta/e-smith-cups/documentation/howtos/printing-to-raw-queues.html . Another option besides samba would be LPD printing: Mac OS X should be able to act as an LPD client to the SME Server's LPD server.
