Topic: Basic Mac Networking to V6.0.1

I am not a Mac guy at all but I need to get Mac OS 8.1 or 8.5 to login to the SME Server.  When I try through the Chooser (the Server shows up there no problem)I get the following message:
"The User Authentication Method required by this server can't be found. Please check the AppleShare folder in the System folder and try again."

I have tried installing the Microsoft UAM package but this does not seem to help - any ideas?

The company i'm with is running a SME 6.0 and we're unable to connect via OS 8.6, the technicians on our side said that the system itself hasn't got the necesarry protocol to connect to the SME. It seems only 9.2 is able to connct properly. I hope this sheds some light on the situation, unfortunately i don't know of any solutions.
