Topic: E-mail Client suggestions (Free is better)

What is everyone using?
OE has a problem handling big boxes and Thunderbird is slow to death.

Most of my clients use Outlook Express - mostly because Thunderbird won't run on a P75 with 40MB of RAM - but find it glitchy.  I've used Thunderbird for months and  find it great.

I'd be interested in a nice open-source IMAP client that runs on anything, too.

We use webmail only.  210 users across 21 counties in central NE.  Most viruses need OE to execute.  Don't have to transfer e-mail from one computer to another during upgrades.  Don't have to configure new users or new computers for email.  Don't have to patch OE security issues.  With Clamav and ASSP we don't have virus or spam problems.  The webmail we currently use is Horde....IMP, turba, kronolith, mnemo, nag, and vacation.  It's been working well for a few years now.  The new Horde version is on just about ready.  Lots of new features, such as shared calendars, tasks, memos, etc...

I'm about to test Horde 3.0 today, if it satisfies then it will be the way to go!
About all the clients I tested, Becky's has won the contest. It's a Shareware thou!

When using horde, the php accelerator will help greatly.  I'm not completely finished with the details, but I have ingo (the filtering part of horde/imp) using procmail to do server side sorting AND a user configurable vacation message (all within horde).

Pegasus mail, full of features not yet implemented
by most other new clients, has been available by 15 years now!
