Hi

I've switch my ordinary telephone with a box for ip telephony. The thing is that it doesn't work that well with my sme 6.0.1-01.

It seems that sme shutdown open ports before the phone can register it and the result is that i'm not able to dial out and people are not able to call me. However to make it totally hopeless this doesn't happen every time and once in a while it works and I expect it to be at the time when my provider polls the phonebox.

The question is: Does anyone have any experience with ip telephony and sme? and second how can I troubleshoot ?

Depends on your provider, but try

open up UDP port 5060
open up UDP port 10000

open up or port forward to your phone. Give it a try.

Ask your provider how their service is handling NAT

I have tried different ip telephones, and I think the only thing I can say is that they can be rather different. They use different ports and they need different configuration of the firewall/router.

I am using 4 different ip telephones behind a nat firewall, and I think each one of them are making a different trafic pattern. 3 of them will normally do it trough a standard nat router while the fourth (and the fifth I have just ordered) only will work with a certain individual nat configuration.

I think it would be a good idea to contackt the ip telephony wendor to obtain information of how a nat firewall should be configured to let the ip telephony service trough.
