eGroupware speed

Hi all,
using Stéphane Gauvin's excellent guide to installing eGroupware on SME, I have setup eGroupware V 1.0.0.7 on my Webserver running SME 6.0.1. It is running on HTTPS as suggested in the guide but is very slow to start. I previously ran eGroupware on a CentOS box which was only visible to local clients however whether used internally or by web isers it runs very slowly on SME. I have installed Eaccelerator with little effect and am wondering if there is a simple setting in the code I need to speed it up now. I have also made sure that my firewall will allow HTTPS connections of course.

Thanks for any help.

You have given no details as to your hardware setup, nor have you said specifically whether the server is only slow to start or is slow in running.  I'd look first at whether you have enough RAM, but without more details, who can say?

It is running on a 2GHZ Compaq EVO Workstation with 512MB and a 10,000rpm SCSI drive. I would have thought this would be more than adequate as I have run it on lesser machines much faster. The machine itself seems to run fine, it's just eGroupware, (I have also have a couple of HTTP pages on this machine which appear quickly but they are just very basic HTML pages).
Incidentally, do you think SME 6.5RC1 is stable and safe enough now to run as a Webserver? As I'm planning to upgrade to mirrored drives in this machine I thought I might try and use 6.5RC1 instead?

Thanks

That server should be more than adequate for what you're talking about.  So your eGroupware question has me stumped, unless it wants some obscure MySQL setting tweaked, or some other version than what's provided.  Got your MySQL upgraded to 4.x?  PHP to 4.3.x?
Have you checked that your disks are running with DMA enabled?

As to your SME6.5 questions, no, I would NEVER use a "release candidate" on a production server, no matter the feature set.
