You're looking to back up just the contents of the ibays this way?  Then use PPtP VPN to connect to the server and use the most excellent SyncBack from 2brightsparks to back each ibay up.

Hmm the backup2ws i think this is only if the server and the workstation is in the SAME local network...
and in my situation it is NOT in the same location there are about 300 kilometers between the server and the workstation ...

The standard bacup to workstation of the sme server can for sure be used for backup via Internet. I do that regularly.

Of caurce this standard back up is restricted to 2 GB backup. Don't know how this wil work with the backup2ws as well.

I think I red somewhere here on this forum that there is also a backup tool that will make a backupfile to a ibay. If this is the case I would belive that it could be transfered woth ftp from there to the backupstation (??!!)

By the way I tried also for some period to make a rsync backup via internet, but it did not work for me. On the other hand rsync to a USB Harrdisk worked fine.

Sorry, I forgot to mention one thing ..

The standard backup to workstation feature via Internet is blocked by default configuration.

You have to declare the remote PC as a "trusted client" or something like that on the admin-panel

I thought this would work for the backup2ws mod as well, but I don't know that for sure.

And it looks like I was wrong about the backup2ws module.

I made a test installation to check out if it work wia Internet. Does not seem to be the case.

The standard sme bacup works via internet, but it is limited to 2 GB.
