Im pretty new to e-smith and linux ( i'm used to work with unix but not as a admin but as a programmer).
I've got the following situation i'm uing e-smith as a mail server and that is working good no problem but here comes it i have only one account from which i want to collect my mail (using pop3).
How do i configure fetchmail so it collects it and sends it ??
i put the following in /etc/fetchmail
poll pop.hccnet.nl protocol pop3 user is nieuws here password

when i give the on the command line fetchmail it says
fetchmail: no mailservers have been specified.

What am i doing wrong ?????

E-smith is managed via a browser interface. Please read the documentation to understand the basics of e-smith.

The fetchmail add on at http://www.chez.com/vinc28/fetchmail.html
is the best solution I have found for muti pop collection and distribution of mail.

two rpms are needed
fetchmail-5.8.17-1.i386.rpm
e-smith-fetchmail-0.2-7.noarch.rpm

source rpm are also there

instruction to install to (who ever needs/reads instructions!) its very easy

configure fetchmail via server-manager

First of all, i'm not on these forums to piss people off or get them depressive about linux (or e-smith).

I'm spending time to help people as best as I can and try to contribute my simple knowledge and experience of things.

I stated clearly to understand the 'basics of the e-smith way' of thinks before things (configs) are getting messed up, and 'magic' things are happening like modifications made to config files are dissapearring.

And as I can see from you posting history, you are clearly in title be critical about trying to help. You've been around a week or so and so far you've only asked....

Don't do this Kelp, comments are always welcome but we all try our best.

Why don't we just use fetchmail.rc in root's directory and start it with /usr/bin/fetchmail  -f /root/.fetchmailrc , distributing muliple mail servers to multiple users?

i just asked a question and i if you are pissed of by my question just go and walk on what is it in this world when someone asks something you give answers like you did. I'm a programmer for over 10 years but only started using unix beginning 2001 and linux since a month and believe me everything you know is easy but the things you don't know are a problem. Everybody else thanx for the replies and you mr wang please just move on ..........

I have used the 'older' version of the Fetchmail located at http://www.chez.com/vinc28/fetchmail.html, but the new one has a few more settings and boxes to fill in during setup, etc.  The web page does not have complete instructions - do any of you have a more complete instruction set for this new version?

sorry,
I just guessed and it worked.
Follow the instructons on the page you downloaded it from
and add.
the first server is the mail server itself then you gou further and
you can fill in per account (20X) where to fetch the mail from
