Hi All,

I've searched the forums and the web and have only seen references _comparing_ SME and Cobalt servers.

Has anyone loaded SME on a Cobalt box with the intel processor?  My Qube 3's OS is so out of date, the box is currently a paperweight, err doorstop acutally...  I have SME loaded on a few PC servers and it is great for my needs.

The following is a technical recipe or "howto" document for one successful procedure to install the Red Hat Linux distribution onto a Sun Cobalt Qube 3 model internet appliance.

Oh and this is the procedure used for install Red Hat 7.2, and SME is based on Red Hat 7.3 so it should get you out of trouble

Cobalt Qube is quite old indeed,
but have looked at this site:

There are RAQ and Qube3 ports to RedHat and Fedora...

Paul,

  Don't try it.  The Qube doesn't have a video output.  That's going to make the install pretty tricky.  The SME install needs a monitor and keyboard for the initial configuration.

  I'd recommend checking out the aftermarket on ebay.  I't probably worth something to someone.

Though I used to be able to do a Rubics Cube in the dark
(showing my age?) I think you are right - the Cobalt Qube3 would be another story.

Of course - you could try putting a vga card in the pci slot....

You will need to have keyboard and video.  Since the Qube has only one PCI slot, it will have to be a combo card.

The only real way to go about it is a bit complicated and not really work the time.

I'm not familiar at all with this hardware.  But you could try installing SME on the hard drive from your Cube with the hard drive in another computer, set it up for remote access and move the hard drive back.  You'll have to know what nic's are in the cube and manually select them I guess.  Might work...
