Viewing backup tape contents on Windows
« on: June 05, 2005, 02:43:31 PM »
Hi all,

I have been backing up my 6.0.1 system for some time using Flexbackup on DDS4 tapes. I just picked up a second DDS4 tape drive and have installed it in my WinXP desktop.

Is it possible to view the contents of my SME Server backups and selectively retrieve files using the tape drive in my Windows PC?

Thanks,

Allan

If i remember correctly the backup is "only" compressed tar.gz or bzip data. So if you got a Windoze unpacker able to handle those formats - yes.

Hi,

Yes you are able to do it.  You will need a program like WinRAR to uncompress the backup.

First you'll need to be able to read the tape.
