« on: June 22, 2005, 09:54:54 AM »
i have been trying to setup openvpn on my sme 6 server
i have been following the guide
http://sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/index.html?frame=http%3A//sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/howtos/howto_30.htm

I have edited the vars config file and and the key_dir is set to
export KEY_DIR=/etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys
which does exist, but when i follow the guide and run the
sh clean-all
i recieve this error
[root@p31000 easy-rsa]# sh clean-all
you must define KEY_DIR

what am i doing wrong ?? i wish the standard PPTP worked out of the box

It does, it seems though that quite a few people do have problems, but there must be many many more for whom it works perfectly.

Exactly what sme version are you using ?

I use the Mitel 6.0 with Mitel updates and bridged modems and a good quality ISP who does not block anything, and have no problems at all.

I'm using version 6.01 (stable) i have managed to get the PPTP working while i was at work, but after being connected for about 10 mins my server stops responding completely and i have to phone the wife to manually power it off and on so i can SSH back to it  :-?

so i thought i'd replace it with openvpn because everyone i've talked to say its "the daddy"

Are you in a position to replace your home box with the 6.0 stable release (from mitel) plus the updates (from mitel) ?
It's essentially the same as the rebranded 6.0.1 but I know it (6.0) works (for me).

i have 3 SME boxes
6 i have as my main production server
i have 6.5 beta installed on a laptop for testing
and SME 7 alpha 19 with openxchange install also for testing. I have tried the same howto for openvpn on my 6.5 beta and recieved the same errors, i just cant figure it out.
I have even tried creating another (keys dir) in another location and changed the path in the (vars) file but the same error still appeared,  :-?

I had the same problem till I realized that there was a small syntax prob in the HOWTO.  where it says ".vars" it should be ". vars" with a space after the period.  hope this helps

The Howto actually has a space between but I do admit its hard to spot and easily forgotten. Anyways I have used the OpenVPN for 1.5 years now for roadwarriors and for site-to-site VPN and it has never let me down. I have 25 people using the Window Client and never with a flaw.

I can only endorse this package again and again - one of the best Open Source items I have come around - SME is of cause #1 :-D
