What I was able to find while looking for your driver were some unsupported kernel-devel packages. I can't be sure this is exactly what you need, but it does indicate a possible modification of the iso to have it include the discussed drivers.
Since these drives still have (some?) popularity, I believe there is a possibility of these coming back into sme7. It, however, won't do that by itself.
Sme 6.0.1 is nothing close to Sme 7, by age if anything. I have no idea why CentOS no longer supports BusLogic (assuming that's the issue), and if anyone told me, I probably wouldn't get it (hdd's are a mystery to me). Drivers working on 6.0.1 may or may not work on sme7. It's like flipping a coin to me (without clearly seeing the outcome, you can only be so and so sure about such a driver's functionality).
So I'd say you have three options:
1. Use 6.x
2. Do some research and propose an implementation for such support to the sme7 developers...
3. All of the above

Come to think of it...the LSI/BusLogic thing may have been about the controller... You might try looking up any drivers for that aswell...
