Printing mutiple copies via SME 6.0.1
« on: June 29, 2005, 02:04:14 PM »
Hi

I have 2 USB attached printers, a Brother HL1450 Laser and an HP Deskjet840C.

When I print from Windows XP apps to the Brother and request more than one copy, the results are perfect.

On the otherhand, when I request multiple copies of the same document to the HP printer, only the first copy is printed.

I have connected the HP directly to the XP machine (again via USB) and it prints multiple copies properly.

Does any one have any thoughts?

Something is wrong with your windows printer driver.

That's odd. I thought that the driver for a local printer would be the same for a network attached printer. Wasn't that the whole point about not needing to load drivers onto SME in the first place?

Obviously the driver needs to do something different to have stuff printed over the network rather than to a locally connected printer. Seemingly your printer driver isn't sending multiple copies. It's a configuration item for the printer driver where the printer is, rather than a different driver.

No, the whole point is that SME doesn't need to know anything about particular printers. All SME does is relay data from the client to the printer.

In the style of the bad guy in a Scooby Doo cartoon "darn you Charlie Brady! I would ve gotten away with it..."

Found I was using the inbuilt MSoft HP driver which was generic - ok for local printers but not networked (Boo to you MSoft). Obtained and installed the specific HP printer driver and all is well now.

Why didn't I think of that?

Thanks!
