Topic: Problem loading a web page through SME server-gateway

I am using SME 6.01 as server-gateway.  I have SquidGuard running.

For some reason, this particular web page will not load using IE: http://www.acstechnologies.com

I don't receive the typical SquidGuard error, so it doesn't appear to be blocked.

Also, you should know that the web page loads fine in FireFox (just not IE).

I would say it is a poor web design (not compatible with IE), but the web site loads fine in IE when accessed via a router, not through the SME server.  So, I'm assuming the problem is somehow related to the SME server.

Does anyone else experience this?

Any ideas what might be going on here?

I've had a few customers that I had to turn off the server being a proxy server and the pages that wouldn't load worked.

That makes sense, but I do want the SME server to act as a proxy server.  I really like the filtering capabilities it provides using SquidGuard.

I'm hoping someone will have a solution that would allow me to keep the proxy server active.

I'm behind a 6.0 server without squidguard and that site is accesible OK using Win2K/IE5.5
Check your browser settings for some security setting that may be interfering, have you tried Ctrl F5 ?

Well, then that narrows this down to SquidGuard.

The problem then, appears to be related to running SquidGuard and using the server as a proxy server for web page filtering.

Actually, I did try that, to no avail.  Also,  I tested it on two different SME 6.01 servers with different internet providers. - Same result.

But, in testing this more... I discovered something else.

(This is hard to explain, so I apologize in advance)
The SquidGuard "Use Prosy Access Password" is enabled on the SME server.  And, I'm using Identd to authenticate with SquidGuard.  I'm using Identd because entering a username & password, each time the browser is opened, is annoying.

Anyway, when using Identd I do not have to check the "Use Proxy Server" option in IE.  Here is the thing...  If I check the "Use Proxy Server" option in IE then the web page loads. - Ah ha!

So then, the problem now appears to be using identd to authenticate with SquidGuard and not having the "Use Proxy Server" option set in IE.

Any thoughts about this?

One more question...

Is there a better method than using identd?
 -  My purpose is to restrict internet access to everyone except those who are approved by me.  Using Identd makes this very easy.
