Topic: SME 7 alpha 24 - Password Structure

This is obviously not a bug but a configuration question.

In 6.01 I can create user passwords that are simple while in SME 7 alpha 23/24 I see that I have to have complex passwords - Upper/Lower case/numbers etc. I only want to use simple passwords as I am only using it at home.

Can anyone tell me how I change this?

Hi Laurie,

remember that SME7 is in alpha state only....
Apart from testing, you should not use it for anything.

On the command line do:
/sbin/e-smith/db configuration setprop passwordstrength Users none

My alpha 24 testbox are complaining over the password “Will2Live” – I can’t se why as it have upper and lower case plus a number. I also tried with “b4uyFEsN” still no luck.

After running the “/sbin/e-smith/db configuration setprop passwordstrength Users none” command I was able to use “Will2Live”

Is it a bug?

 Anyhow, developers should maybe consider passwords strength being controlled from the Server Manager webpage.

Ok, then it has to be a bug – when I installed the testbox I used “Will2Live” as root/admin password – But it was not accepted for a normal user.

I’ll report it on the bugtracker.

Ok, then it has to be a bug – when I installed the testbox I used “Will2Live” as root/admin password – But it was not accepted for a normal user.

I’ll report it on the bugtracker.

It isn't a bug...  Will2Live does not follow the normal password checks.  You need 1 lower, 1 upper, 1 digit, 1 special, length >6.  You have all but the special chararcter.  Will2Live@ would be a good password.

Strong and normal checks are different.  Any password the server-manager won't accept for admin the installer will warn you about.
