Still leanring about linux, have searched and read many topics here re UPS control but remain confused (a little anyway)

Running SME 6.0.1
Using Centralion Blazer 400 UPS

Installed older apcupsd contrib from D May and in its default form I have some functionality ... the greatest problem is to have the UPS/contrib signal a graceful shutdown on power failure and I can't seem to get this to work.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

There seem to be many articles about NUT but I have to say a have not been able to get a clear (or maybe clear enough) understanding of the specific steps to establish NUT functionality with my UPS but if someone is able to provide the specifics (Ray Mitchell might as he seems to have a similar setup ... not sure though) I'm happy to uninstall this contrib and use NUT ... ideally using this contrib would suit better.

Cheers

Enable it. If it works, good. If it doesn't, please file a bug report.

Thanks Charlie but I thought the standard config for 6.0.1 was usb and not serial as my ups is.

Yes, you're correct. I didn't guess that your ups is serial. Try my contrib, and Ray's HOWTO.

The apcupsd contrib is specifically for APC brand UPS's. That's probably why it does not work correctly with your UPS.

As Charlie says use his powstatd contrib which should work with any brand of serial UPS and follow the HOWTO steps very carefully to configure it for your particular UPS. Make sure your cable is appropriate, but that should become obvious when testing.

Thanks Ray (and Charlie) I have installed the RPMs mentioned and following the HowTo ... have run out of time to finish but I do think perhaps the cable is incorrect ... I'll try again soon and when I have a working model will post here.
