a way for standard users to reboot / shutdown the system

I have SME server deployed at a small office, and one person has the admin password to add delete accounts etc.

everything functions well, but since that person isn't there all the time, (there are 3 shifts) I need to somehow have a particular group of normal users to have the ability to reboot or shutdown the server remotely without giving them the admin password.

the office has had a rash of power outages recently and nearly lost the server (file system got corrupt pretty bad) so now they want to turn off the system if a storm is impending or starts to happen. I don't want them just hard powering it off.

and yes they should have a UPS, but they don't and for some unknown reason won't get one.

ideally an ibay that had a webpage with a button to restart the server would be ideal, but even another way to remotely run a script would be good.

Depends what you mean by remotely, as you say the 3 users are on site ??

Install user manager and just enable the reboot/shutdown section of the panel and then show the users how to access user manager with their own name and password, see the dungog contribs to get it.

With respect, If they are that stupid and wont spend $50 for a UPS then they dont deserve the right to type REBOOT in ANY console.

with respect, that's a pretty crappy reply. should they have a UPS?  absolutely.  do I try to convince them they should invest in one yes.  does their unwillingness to do so give me the right to basically tell them to F off and deny them service?  absolutely not.

I am an independant contractor to them.  I am paid to provide solutions within the scope of what they are able and willing to do.....

and that's what I'll do.

PS

Ray,
the user manager looks like a winner for me.  I'm installing it on a test server now to make sure.  thanks a bunch.

If they physicaly have access to the server, you could add the powerswitch addon that will shut the server down
