Hi,

Could some experienced SME Programmers whip up either a clone of cPanel or a similar (free) product and combine it into the next release?

Mainly for the following:

>Each user (or selected users) has their own web-based panel (like cPanel)
-->Change User/Password (already there, but inside this interface)
-->File Manager (only for their home folder/website)
-->WYSIWYG Editor (for their website - if they have one)
-->Webmail (already there, but inside this interface)
-->and more

>The admin panel additions:
-->File Manager
-->More advanced user options
---->Rankings (additional admins, special permits/restrictions)
---->More configuration for Domain Controller/Directory
-->More advanced Firewall options
---->Port Forwarding
------>Direction of flow (in/out/both)
-->WYSIWYG Editor (for main websites and others)
-->More advanced Network options
---->NICs
------>Support for more than 2 cards
------>Web-based configuration for each
-------->IP configuration
-------->Packet/Port/Bandwidth Restrictions for each pc connected on each NIC.
-->iTunes Server :-> (and web-based config)
-->and more

These are just a few ideas. Have a think about them and sori if I've confused you ;)

The creators of the SME-Server wanted to keep the program Small and Easy to administer. I think your wishes, while definitly have some merit are beyond the scope of the original design template.

Well atleast they could add a page on the server manager to ease the installation of contribs (add-ons).

The contribs should be pre-packed as a bin or tar.gz file for the installation page to pick up and install the contrib for you, and if necessary configure it.

I have tried to install contribs before, and it only resulted in a re-installation of SME (or windows).

7.0alpha has just such a panel and the structure of contribs is being improved to make this easier:

"They" are a group of people who give a lot of their time and effort to make the server better. If you want to help "them", get involved.

Or even better as RPMs and yum groups which automate the configuration, which is what is happening in 7.0 - the structure for this is currently being put in place.

The effort to create a contrib is not tiny. The effort to test it in all possible situations is even larger. The quality of contribs varies.

Now a gentle reminder: People are motivated by two things:
- They have an itch to scratch
- Someone is paying them to do the work

If you would like to see things happen, and you can't do the work yourself, consider sponsoring someone to do it.
