What is my Gateway?

I'm sure that this is an easy question for most of you but I am having problems with my connections and I just need to rule out that its not my settings.

sme 6.5 gateway and server public
172.19.3.1 adsl modem (dhcp off)
172.19.3.2 external NIC

10.1.1.10  internal NIC (dhcp on)
10.1.1.50 > 250 LAN

Gateway 10.1.1.10

Is this ok??

artful,
if you need 250 dhcp clients, then you would need to change your settings or create new routes, since the max. clients on a private network under the same net would be 253.
What type of ADSL connection is this? You modem does transparent bridge? Otherwise there must be something wrong with the external IP.

artful,

What issues are you having with your connection?  Some additional information would be helpful.
Does your ADSL modem act as a router, gateway as well?  If so, your External NIC on your SME server will need to have the IP address of the modem as the gateway address for that NIC.

From what you have posted, the 10.1.1.10 address on your internal LAN would be the correct Gateway for all your internal PC's.

my connection seems to be very slow. page retrival from the net is slow.
officially my adsl speed should be 512/3300.
My SME server has the adsl/modem as gateway which also acts as router.  I'm not sure what you mean by the modem 'acting as gateway'??
I have the internal nic connected to a switch for my LAN

my adsl router is not set up as a transparent bridge! should it be??

I am not able to connect to my adsl/modem's web browser (172.19.3.1) although I have enter this range as a local network on the SME admin page.

artful,
Some modems are able to bridge, some not. If you can make it so, that will fix your problems. Otherwise remove the range you added to your local lan, then re-run the wizard (shell login as admin or su to admin, however you set the first time) and make your modem IP the master DNS.

In your setup - the adsl modem is not a local network and should not be set up as one. By doing this you are most likely adding incorrect routes to your routing table.

you are correct. by deleting this local network my speed increased dramatically.

Thanks

But I decided to change my setup to 'server only' instead of server&gateway.  my external connections to and from my LAN did not appear to be working correctly and I was unable to find out quick enough how to change any settings.
