I have been having the same problem, but it only started within the last week or two.
I haven't changed anything within that time, so I'm at a loss, well I did updated clamav, but I wouldn't think that would affect sendmail, specially since clamav isn't configured to scan outgoing emails.
Let's hope someone can shed some light on this matter.

First of all, SMS hasn't got sendmail but qmail

That problem started for me last week.

My clamav install updates itself automaticly and I have just resolved the USA problem discussed here  http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=28167.0

I did mean qmail, it's just my mind was on the sendmail style log that you find in "mail log file analysis"  :hammer:

so it's last week for you as well, did you make any changes apart from clam being updated ??
I may have forgotten about something I changed

I have entries in my logs I jhavn't noticed before:

qmail:1017231582.589708 warning: trouble marking remote/11/213014; message will be delivered twice!
qmail:1017231582.589829 warning: unable to unlink remote/11/213014; will try again later

Seems like there are permission problem to the queue directories. Does anyone knows how I can fix this?

Thanks

First you need to diagnose the exact problem. What does "rpm -V qmail" show?

What did you do (or add-on software which you have installed do) immediately before the problem started occurring?

Code: [Select]
[root@server /]# rpm -V qmail
.M...UG.   /var/qmail/alias
..5....T   /var/qmail/queue/lock/tcpto

and this is what I got this morning, it was an email to about 6 people, using outlook as a mail client
Code: [Select]

1123464129.546456500 qp 2125: to=remote.email@address, uid=401, ddelay=186.061047, xdelay=183.039739, stat=Sent (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx_accepted_message./Remote_host_said:_250_ok:__Message_1754967_accepted/)
1123464132.100846500 qp 2125: to=remote.email@address, uid=401, ddelay=188.615437, xdelay=182.581575, stat=Sent (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx_accepted_message./Remote_host_said:_250_ok:__Message_1754976_accepted/)
1123464231.451499500 qp 2125: to=remote.email@address, uid=401, ddelay=287.966090, xdelay=145.464161, stat=Sent (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx_accepted_message./Remote_host_said:_250_ok:__Message_1755142_accepted/)

I removed the email address, but it was to one of the people on the list, and it was sent to him 3 time's before I removed it from the queue, it could have been sent more than that if I didn't remove it.

the only change that happaned was updating ClamAV, I got the email notifying me that new updates are available and to go to /tmp/UCA/ and install them, and that's when I started noticing the problem.
I might try uninstalling ClamAV and see if that solves the problem, but I'll wait for a day before I do that incase someone can suggest something else.

cheers
.........

Any news on this problem ?
I'm having the same problem too.
Done nothing to the server except for automatic updates from SpamAssassin ...
Not sure when the problem started, I was triggered by a few friends who started complaining. I have the same kind of entries in my logs as described above.

Seems that after solving the problem here:
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=28167.0

and after spamassassin updated itself correctly the problem was gone.

I have also changed Qmail ConcurrencyLocal & ConcurrencyRemote settings (http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/rmitchell/smeserver/howto/Mail%20system%20tweaks%20HOWTO%20for%20sme%20server.htm)

Maybe mails were sent in double because too many mails try to be sent at the same time

Please try updating Spamassassin correctly an changing ConcurrencyRemote to something very low (eg 1) and report if problem still here.

It is gone for me ;)

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, but:

- I never had the messages described in the thread you quoted,

- My system is fast enough and handles not very much e-mail. I have been running this hardware with SME for over 2 years now and never had any problems until recently, and nothing was changed by me.

However, I have now created a special account to do some testing, and will report back (give it a few days).

Thanks for your help !

It is not about system speed but bandwith. I also have ran SME for many years and never noticed such a problem...

Have you try sending 4/5 mails with large attachemnts (5/6 MO) for some of those?

Do you use ADSL?
With an ADSL connection you shouldn't be able to do anything else (http, ftp etc). The ADSL technology does that.

Just my two cents.

Hi,

I have never sent several e-mails with large attachments concurrently. The e-mails which got sent twice were all simple txt e-mails.

My bandwith upstream is 768 kbps, should suffice, shouldn't it ?  :-D

Like I said, I have been running SME for several years now, and *never* had this problem before.

I don't understand your remarks about ADSL technology and the other protocols ?
