Email problems

I've had a few nagging email problems that I'd like to sort out but can't seem to find any documentation/posts that address the issue.  I'm using SME 6.5.

1) Logwatch is sending emails to root@home.home (which is bouncing).  I've set my domain as merely "home" since I don't have a registered domain name.  For some reason, ".home" seems to be appended to these admin emails and the system is not recognizing the recipient.  Then the bounce is being forwarded to admin@home.home and is being double bounced to postmaster@home and I'm (somehow) getting that message.  Where is the setting/config to change that so that ".home" is not being incorrectly appended.

2) In outlook, I can't send a message to user@home.  It doesn't seem to like the recipient address problem due to it's length.  It must think I'm trying to send an email to a user like rob@com or rob@net - which obviously wouldn't exist.

3) While tinkering with my system to fix the above noted problems, I changed my email retrieval mode to multi-drop and entered my isp smtp server as secondary mail server in the ETRN or multi-drop settings.  This didn't fix the problem so I changed back to standard (smtp), but can't seem to remove that isp server from the secondary mail server.  If I erase it and press save, it comes back.

Thanks for any responses to any/all of the above questions.

I would suggest registering and using a real domain name. At e.g. dyndns.org it's completely free.

Simply logon as user admin at the console (or via ssh) and reconfigure your server.

I expect your life will become much easier...  ;-)

OK.  I'll try that.  Whereas the free domains (I've already registered one) are actually sub-domains, will that make things more difficult?

OK.  I've configured my system for my registered domain with dyndns and email seems to work fine internally.  So question 2 seems to be overcome.

Is there any way to initiate a logwatch email so that I can see if that's working?

Also, any advice/insight into #3 would be appreciated.
