Creating boot disk when doing upgrade from ver 6.5 to 7

Anyone knows how to make a boot diskette when doing an upgrade from ver 6.5 to alpha 7. It seems that 6.5 is using LILO and 7. is using GRUB. When I choose an normal upgrade incl. upgrade of the boot manager, the first restart stops in the boot manager only printing "LIL". Therefore: Haw can I create a boot diskette in ver alpha 7?

Alpha series changed from LILO to GRUB somewhere around a15.  The base was changed from Centos3 to Centos4.1 in alpha21.  Somewhere around alpha21, some of the db directories were also moved.

With all these major changes, the upgrade path was becoming evermore difficult to maintain and trying to keep it working was somewhat time consuming until the base OS becomes more permanent and closer to it's final configuration.  I think the developers will spend a lot more time on upgrades when the alpha is nearing it's end and getting closer to being beta.

There was even a point where even alpha to alpha upgrades did not work properly.

With all that said, it has been suggested that you do "fresh" installs for testing at this point (even from previous alphas) until the upgrade issues are addressed and resolved.

I personally had to clear my MBR when GRUB came about.  I couldn't get it to install otherwise.  Upgrading from 6.5 (with LILO) to 7alpha (with GRUB) for me was not possible (tried once for fun) and probably won't work for many reasons including the change to GRUB and the db locations to name a couple of major ones.

Even if you get your LIL problem resolved, I think you will find a few more things broken.

The upgrade scripts will be fixed (and will probably take more time than most people realize) but the developers have to get the base OS working properly first.  They consider upgrade problems with every alpha (just read the bug tracker and the mailing list, it comes up frequently).

Just curious, why are you trying to upgrade from 6.5 to 7alpha?
