Topic: I Cant write anything to Primary - HELP!!

I'm slowly going insane.... My E-Smith Gateway and DHCP services work fine, but I cannot seem to add any files to the Primary folder (or any subdirectories - hence the problem).

I can write to the files directly from the Server, but I need to be able to place files in there from my Windows share. I have tried connecting to E-Smith as MORPH\(root), MORPH\(myname) and Admin to no avail. I can see the share but not edit or add to it. - "Access is Denied!"

Please someone help me.

I am running a small workgroup of 3 Win 2k Pro workstations, 1 Win XP station and 1 Win2k Laptop as well as my E-Smith server.

Does this have anything to do with SAMBA incompatabilities with 2k domain logons? I'd like to use it as a PDC as well as 2k server sucks but I can't do that either - The old "Access is denied!" chestnut.

I have recently upgraded from v4.1.1 to 5.0 hoping to resolve the problem, but still no joy. What am I doing wrong?

If you have not upgraded Samba to act as a domain controller for Win2K clients then make sure you are logged onto the local 2K machine with the SAME user (admin) and password as you use to access the SME v5 machine.  This should give you access to the shares on the SME box.

I've already tried that - I've created an admin user with the same name and password, but still no joy

Why do you want to write to 'primary'?

Create ibays in the e-smith-manager and point your users at them instead. If you accept the default user and group permisions in the dialogue the ibays will be accessible to anyone logging into a Windows machine with a username and password that are valid for the e-smith box.

You also need to create a user group in the manager dialogues and make all of your users members of it, and then choose that group in the pull down on the ibay setup dialogue.

Did you try to login to your w2k box with admin/your root pw ?  This does the trick for me.
