Topic: 6.5 hosting

hi there.
Please help me. I am running 6.5rc and i cant seem to get anyone to see my website,ftp or mail. On using 6.01 i remember that under the host names and adresses bar you could modify and set them to be seen global, but on 6.5rc all i see are options for self,remote and local. Any ideas what im doing wrong?

You could post more info but here goes

global on 6.01 was just for the e-smith services I believe
anyway if you are behind a router you need to set the firewall to forward to the SME ip address for your services

---unless you used the same ip address a before should be alright then



if it is gateway mode you should not have to but your DNS records need to be right

You also need to make sure your DNS files are correct
if you are using a dynamic address they may need updated

Also if you have placed you website in a different ibay make sure it is set to READ - EVERYONE

Sorry i dident give much info, but thanx for the reply. Unfortunitly it still does not seem to be working how i want it to.

i have adsl. It is using a dynamic ip. As far as i can see that part is working. My SMC router has a updater with dyndns.
I have also configured NAT on it to forward ports 21,22,25 and 80 to my SME server's ip.
The server is setup as server gateway and has 2 nic's.
1 connected to adsl, other too my pc. As far as that is it also seems to be working fine. Can browse from both pc and server.One prob though, if i leave both standing with out internet usage EG 30mins when i return i cannot browse. Plug pc directly into router works! plug back server then only starts working.

Anyway, sme setup for webpage and e-mail in primary ibay. From what i can see all seems ok but friends tell me they cant access web page. The routing definitly works because i routed port 6112 to my pc so i could host a game and that works. This is when i came up with the global theory.Its the only thing i saw different. Im still poking, but if you have any other comments to add. Please do.

You have an odd setup

I have dsl service and it works great by the following

router from dsl connection acting as firewall also
ports 25 80 110 443 sent to SME box set

my router is only single port so it then goes to a
100 mb switch or a hub will work fine too

SME set as server only
set with staic ip address
as all of my other 7 computers

I also set dhcp in the router to give ip's over

192.168.1.50 for my wireless nic's in the laptops

That is the complete setup other than using
Zoneedit for DNS and DirectUpdate to keep ip's current
my router does not have the means to.

unfortunitly it still isint working. My friends say that when they browse for my site it says."site found" then gives gateway time out.

What confuses me is. Shouldent the hostnames and adresses in server-manager say visibilit = global.

Doesn't that tell you something PRIVATE!!!!!!!!!

go through the configure this server screens and set it to server only and give it a try
