Email gone haywire for no apparent reason
« on: August 19, 2005, 03:07:47 AM »
Hi, I NEED HELP!!
I have over 1000 email accounts on my SME 6.0.1-01 box. Everything has been working well until about 36 hours ago.  Since then I have not been able to send or recieve outside email.

I have no idea why this could have happened and have done some investigation but i have reached my limit and need some help.

When I do a DNS Report from http://www.dnsreport.com/
I get a timeout error when trying to connect to my mail server but all other DNS setting seem to be right.

When doing a Port Scan from https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
I find that both ports 25 and 110 are "Stelthed" (shouldnt they be open for email to work)

If I put my internet providers email server IP in my email setting I can now send emails but recieving still does not happen.

Can some one please help me diagnose this problem.

Thanks

Brad :-(

If you didn't change anything, it's likely that your ISP changed their policy regarding the use of public email ports.  This happened to one of my clients recently, preventing them from running their own mail server without upgrading to a different class of account.  Your symptoms are right in line with this.

I'd give them a call and check their policy.  Good luck.
