Motherboard/Hard Drive problems.

Hi
New 6.01 server using:-
Gigabyte MB, VIA  KM266 Pro+ 8235 Chipset
AMD Sempron 2800
512 DDR
80 GB Seagate IDE HD

The problem is that the Hard Drive speed is very slow, have tried

/sbin/e-smith/config setprop hdparm status enabled
reboot

hdparm -d /dev/hda
using_dma = = 0 (off)

I have tried all at the following
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=28038.msg116270#msg116270

hdparm -d1 /dev/hda results in the following
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted.

I presume that all of this is because the MB chipset is not supported by 6.01, SO.....

My choices are as I see it,
1.   Fit a pci ide card, i can get one that uses the SIL 0680 chip.(Not sure if compatible)
2.   Change the MBoard.

Either way comments and or suggestions as to if the pci card with SIL 0680 would work and current MBoards that would work using the AMD CPU.
Thanks in advance
Fred

if you are going to use a controller, I would suggest using a promise ultra 133 controller.  they work great.

just a suggestion.

Have gone with a Promise pci controller and it all works fine.
Thanks for the help.
