I'm currently running SME 6.0.1 on a Dell PowerEdge 4300 server with their PERC2/SC RAID controller (which I understand is simply a rebadged AMI Megaraid series unit). I'm planning to upgrade to 7.0 when it's released, and I note from the CentOS 4.x release notes that this controller is no longer supported. Solution, apparently, is to replace the controller.
Off to eBay I go, and buy a PERC3/DC, figuring that the next version should be fine. It arrived today--a 64-bit PCI card. As my server doesn't have 64-bit PCI slots, it's not going to work for me. So, I need to try again, but actually do some research this time.
Basic requirements are:
- Supported by (or at least operates under) SME 6.0
- Supported by SME 7 (CentOS 4.1)
- Handles RAID 5 and hot-swapping
- Works with a 32-bit PCI slot
It would be nice if the new card would recognize the existing array, but I can backup to tape and restore if I need to. Oh, and something that's readily available and relatively inexpensive would be a plus. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
