Bob,
That is what I was hoping to read! I have been looking at these drives recently as I plan to replace a worn-out NT 4 box with SME. It will have an 80GB RAID-1 setup courtesy of the kernel and sme. I picked up a PowerEdge 500SC a couple of weeks ago so the HW isn't too old. My plan is to run 6.0.1 as stock as possible -- this is only a file server BTW.
My thought was to use backuppc to get good backups to the device. Use mondorestore to get the system back then recover from this if I have a complete system failure (hopefully not often as I have RAID-1). I like the look of backuppc as it has web page management as well as the command line.
Do you have any notes on how you got the drive installed? I do know a good bit about Linux, but haven't messed with USB drives before. I wasn't sure if the stock RH 7.3 kernel is happy with these drives as-is, or if you have to make any hacks. I would like it to be as easy as unplugging one drive and plugging in another for my client (automount enabled?). The backuppc would umount the drive when the backup is completed.
If you have some notes, I'll try to give this a go and post a howto as well. There doesn't seem to be much on the contribs web site about this...
This just makes more sense than a tape drive IMHO. I have been looking at the iomega rev, but think I'll wait until version 7 gets out and there are more success stories before I take the plunge.
