Internet test failure

Internet test failure

Here's a strange one for you. Kudos to anyone who figures this out.

I have a system that I'm already using as a Linux router. I run Coyote Linux on it with no problem whatsoever. Anyway, I recently read an article about SME v5 in Linux Magazine, and it sounded great, so I thought I'd give it a try. On the same machine mind you.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Coyote, it is a floppy based router/firewall. As I said, it works fantastic on this system.

My problem is that I'm unable to get the modem working under SME. The serial port (ttyS3) shows up in dmesg. I was even able to get it to dial out once to my main phone number under minicom (which unfortunately completely freaks out after dialing anything). When I try to test the internet connection under the admin tool though, it just fails. After looking in the messages log, there is reference to a diald alert, and something about the chat script failing. (Sorry for being vague, but I'm not able to use SME at all, so I don't have the exact log messages).

Has anyone successfully faced and beaten this monster, and if so, what did you do?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

OK, I'm a nimrod. Please disregard the original post. It certainly helps quite a bit if you don't typo the ISP's dialup number. Sheez.

Thanks anyway.
