SME As File Server Only - Anti-Virus Recommendations?
« on: September 01, 2005, 05:39:37 PM »
Hi There,

I'm planning an SME install (6.0.1) that will be a file server only (no e-mail, gateway, ...).

I would like to know of any experiences with the anti-virus products like clamav or similar products that don't really need to deal with e-mail or any kind of traffic forwarding.  Just monitor the ibays and any suspicious activity for the system files.

My W$ clients will have Avast.

Thanks,
Kevin

actually, clamav does a full file system scan on a schedule you specify. seems to me you could use that, even if you arent using the email server...

Thanks.  I was going through the docs to see if it actually does that.

Compdoc,

I found an update with some information here:

http://sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/index.html?frame=http%3A//sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/howtos/howto_22.htm

In the panel, you can instruct it to either scan or not scan incoming / outgoing e-mail as well as when to perform a file system scan.

Your response was bang-on.  The nice thing is I can do this in a panel.

I agree.  I'm tired of the M$ "recycle my skill set" every 2-3 years on servers.

I'm not concerned about the future of this product.  It has a great user base and a lot of things are going on to make it better.
