Topic: How to restore a backup2ws?

Hi. I've just installed the backup2ws contrib with the intention of using it to copy mail directories from oldserver to newserver.  

I've made the backup from oldserver (job # 710336) to my ws.

How do I do the restore on newserver? In the backup2ws server-manager panel, I have 3 links "create new backup", "enable disaster recovery backup", "advanced disaster recovery restore".  I don't see any options simply to restore a chosen backup. If I create a new backup on newserver it doesn't have the same job #.

I've seen a few threads on this site talking about restore, so I must be missing something pretty basic?

Depends what backup job you are restoring from.
If it is the 911 Disaster Recovery job, then simply enable that job on the new server and then perform a restore.

If it is some other job number ie a custom backup job, then create a new backup job with exactly the same details eg backup locations etc. This will create a job with a certain number.

Rename your original backup files with the new number and then restore from that backup.

Note that if you did a Disaster Recovery restore first, then all your original backup jobs would be recreated from the restore, and would then be available to use to restore other custom backup jobs without the need to rename the backup files.

Yes, the solution was to create a new backup job in the destination server and then note down its number and then rename the existing workstation backup folder and backup filename using that new number. Then use the restore button created in the new backup job. This works, but seems a bit klunky and hacky.

Re: your disaster recovery suggestion, I didn't want to get into that because I wanted the new server to have a different identity from the old server and had already brought the new server on-line.
