Hi Folks,
I'm really enjoying testing of Beta 2, thank you for your hard work.
I have a small gripe and suggestion. It's one of those things where everyone will have their own opinion.
I was trying to set the password on a regular user when I got the error: Bad Password Choice. After 20+ minutes of searching (nothing found for "Bad Password Choice"), I found this page:
http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/SME%20Server%207%20password%20check%20and%20settings.
and determined the default password security settings are:
passwordstrength=configuration
Admin=strong
Ibays=strong
Users=strong
Frankly, as a professional installing systems for small businesses, this has to be changed because it's going to create friction during an already tense period (new server installation).
This means I'm going to have to research the proper command line every time I install a SME server.
My suggestion: give administrators an easy (web panel) way to change the settings. That would give you the option of setting the defaults any way you want while still making it easy for sysadmins to modify if they want to.
Or how about this: an 'override' checkbox on the Set User Password panel that allows the sysadmin the ability to save whatever password he/she wants...after having been advised it isn't strong enough.
Thanks for listening,
G
