I have used SME Server as a DHCP standalone server before and I know it is a powerful server and easy to use.

I have the following questions:
1. can SME server be easily configured to handle two ISPs and one internal network (I have heard it is called channel bonding)?
2. How do I install and configure VPN capability?
3. I am interested in replicating my configuration. What is the easiest way to do this once it is completed once? Could I mount the SME Server drive as an external volume and use Carbon Copy Cloner from an OSX machine?
4. I am interested in the following services to run in addition to DHCP: network time server, proxy server, content filtering (ideally I would like to have a standard set that propogates to each site with indiviudal location overides that do not propogate to different sites) with different group settings based on IP address and/or username, default-closed firewall services, in-line virus and spam scanning on email (I need more information about this) RSync (to synchronize the different systems and keep them the same) and NAT (where applicable).
5. Are there any other neat services (preferably free ones) that might benefit a school environment that I could load onto the servers I am setting up?

Thanks!

Hi,

Most of these questions have been discussed
1.  Channel boding is not supported by SME.  you would
need to buy an external router that does.

2.  It's alreay built-in (PPTP), enable it in the
server manager for the user and just connect.

3.  Define replicate.  if you want an exact copy
users and all.. I guess you can.
Otherwise, it really is not worth the time
since it installs and configures so quickly.
4.  I guess you have not done any reading on what
the SME's capabilities are.  Most of the features
are supported.  Do a little reading to get a
    full feature list.

I imagined they had, I just have not had the chance to locate them all and I had hoped that I might find answers more quickly this way.

Good to know. I won't go looking for how to accomplish channel bonding through SME since I know it is not supported.

I saw some mention of IPSEC is also a possibility. I was kind of hoping to get some guidance on where I might look for help with getting that to work.

Exactly what I want. I want to be able to set it up once and have it be the same in each building, then if I make changes have those changes propogate.

I have done some reading, but not as much as I will do. For now I am looking for suggestions and any help in where to look for the best and easiest way to do these things. I know DHCP runs and I have set that up before. I fully intend to play in it, but it has become a little more time-critical so I decided to ask for some help.

Thanks for the information!

the SME server cannot replicate.

If you are intent, you can check into HIGH AVAILABILITY.
