yes. The boot-floppy image and rawrite to create the disk are on the CD.

If you want a rawrite with a gui have a look at:

http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux

and look for rawrite 0.5 for windows.

Sorry for my silly question, but this is my first experience with Linux (I'm windows man).
I am trying to install e-smith server on a blank DOS formated drive. The manual says that rebooting the PC with the CD will start installation. As there is no option to boot from CD-ROM on that PC (it's old P200MHz) the PC is looking for a floppy (or HD).
I am rebooting with Win95 CD start up disk, which assigns CD-ROM drivers, and i can see the content of the CD, but from there I am stuck. I do not know which file will start installation (under DOS/Windows it is usually setup.exe or install.exe).
I read about booting with boot diskette in the manual, but I am not sure how to create the boot floppy which could trigger the installation of e-smith.
Please help a novice to Linux.

PS: I have a small network with NT domain server. I have been advised that I can use e-smith on a separate machine as internet/e-mail gateway and firewall router. Do you thing that this will be possible within my networ where i have NT PDC/file and print server and 5-6 win95/98 workstations?

In Windows, open the CD in Explorer. Go to the dosutils directory and read the instructions in rawrite3.doc to create a boot floppy.

Thanks for the help - it worked and i managed to install the e-smith.
Great.
There is another problem though - when the e-smith reboots the PC it is supposed to open series of screens in order to configure passwords IP addresses etc.
On my machine it staright comes with LOCALHOST LOGGIN: line and whotever I type the second line asks for password and again whatever I type the answer is that the password is incorrect. And I am going in loop.
Any ideas?

This sounds like the problem described (and corrected) at http://www.e-smith.org/article.php3&mode=threaded&order=0.  Are you using the CD from "Linux Format"?

Well, the best way to fix it is to download a newer version of e-smith/SME, as that one is fairly old.  Failing that, try reading the article I gave you the URL for, which will explain the workaround.

Thanks for the immidiate reply.
I'll possibly try to download ver 5. But 330 MB on my 31k bps modem connection (where Freeserve breaks every 2 hrs) seems like a week long job.
Can I get a smaller size download update for my ver 4? Or get the CD from somewhere?
