SME 7.0 B4 and SATA RAID
« on: September 25, 2005, 04:21:17 AM »
HI,

1. Install SME 7.0 B4 to Dell Poweredge SC 1420 Server.
Installation went ok. but i didn't get option to setup my RAID ( I got 2X 80GB SATA Drive)?

2. I just check this command

[root@filesvr ~]# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid1]
md2 : active raid1 sdb2[1] sda2[0]
      78019584 blocks [2/2] [UU]

md1 : active raid1 sdb1[1] sda1[0]
      104320 blocks [2/2] [UU]

unused devices: <none>

Is this mean my server got RAID Installed?

3. How do i monitor the RAID? can i use this smeserver-raidmonitor-0.0.1-6dmay.noarch.rpm ?

4. Setup this server as a PDC how do i create shared folders and map to 3 workstation users?

5. How do i backup user data ?

You need to read some docs.

SME 7.0 Betas install raid 1 by default if 2 drives are found and raid 5, I believe although I can't confirm it yet, if 3 of more drives are found.

There is a raidmonitor rpm installed by default.  It does use mdadm.  So, I suggest to test, you disconnect one of the drives, reboot and see if it screams at you.

Server-manager/workgroup to make this a PDC.  Create ibays and map drives to those if you have set the ibay up correctly.  Data will be saved to the ibay/files directory.

You can also join the 7.x mailing list at smeserver.sourceforge.net to keep an eye on how the development is going and to file/research bug reports.

Hope that is enough to get you started.
