I dont know if this can help you at all, but I hope it can be a tip to come further ahed with the problem.
As I have read the the new 2.6.x kernel supports wlan directly without the use of windows drivers.
I installed Ubuntu Linux with 2.6.x kernel to a laptop with a Netgear PCMCIA wireless lan card. This worked directely after configuration and without a problem. I have been told that Suse 9.2 and 9.3 are capable of the same "autodetection" but I have not checked it myself.
The sme 7.0 is 2.6.x kernel based and the 6.5 is 2.4.x based.
I guess that configuring the sme 7.0 for wireless lan will be much the same as doing the same for Centos 4.1 (Kernel support should be there but there might be needed som more software modules / configuration.)
By the wy, I think wireless lan will not be as stable as cabeled lan for a server..
