remote access to ibays
« on: October 06, 2005, 06:22:52 AM »
Hi all,

First post, not the last by any means!
A friend in perth wants remote access to ibay on my server which is behind a dlink 540T router.

There is a static IP between the router and server and FTP, SSH and Webserver are all port forwared on the router.  (Nothing is port forwarded on the server) The server handles the dhcp inside the network.  The server is running SME ver.6.0.1 BTW

I have created a username, group and ibay for my friend.  I have set up remote acccess to allow ftp password acccess from anywhere, but not ftp access (as this apparently overrides all other settings).

I can access the ftp login screen on a winxp box, but it will not accept the password.

What have done wrong / am I missing.

Regards

Mick

FTP often doesn't work through port forwarding, and is not recommended anyway, due to the danger of passwords being sniffed. Use SSH transport instead. Your friend can use WinSCP, which runs over SSH transport.
