DNS not resolving my domain
« on: October 22, 2005, 06:28:10 PM »
Hello.
I just upgraded to SME Server from Freesco (everything worked perfectly) :)
Everything works great expcept DNS. Locally it resolves to local networks servers interface, and it does not resolve my domain name form outside my network.

I have rvrt.lv domain whitch should resolve to 159.148.190.43

In current configuration it resolvs to 192.168.1.1
and only if I set up my SME Server IP to be my DNS server.

Please help me.

I have a feeling that SME Server's DNS server somehow does not accept incoming requests form outside my local network :(

Not shure what you are seeing locally, but I can access http://www.rvrt.lv without problem.  How were you trying to access your website from the outside?
If you think you know whats going on, you obviously have no idea whats going on!

Ou sorry, I forgot to mention that I switched to Freesco.... So now what you can see is Freesco box.

Well I accessed it as usual when Freesco was in place, using explorer :D  Also tried ping, tracert to see if it resolves, and it did not do that :(

Even sent e-mail from multiple servers - same problem - rvrt.lv address could not be resolved :(

You need to have externally set up DNS servers which configure your public domain. The SME server does not have a publicly visible DNS server.

So Freesco does have this DNS ? Because with it everything is working fine, like now :( Can I somehow get DNS to be external ?

Here isn't the place to ask about Freesco.

If you've registered a domain, you should know (or be able to find out) where the domain's DNS servers are located. Your domain registrar should be able to publish DNS for you if it's not currently being published (or is currently, but your freesco). If not, there are other free services (although possibly not in the .lv domain).

If you DNS is published externally, then you need to either configure your SME server to match the address it already publishes, or you need to configure dynamic DNS in the console so that the externally published DNS is updated when your Internet address changes.

Have you read the user guide?
