Topic: Help! Can't get on to cable network!

I don't know whats changed, but for the last year and a half I've used e-smith 4.xx on Rogers @home cable service as a gateway with no problems what so ever. Now that they've changed thier network from @home to @rogers, I can't get e-smith to connect.
I have no problems getting Windows 2000 or Linux-Mandrake 8.1 to connect. In fact it seems like you don't even need the user I.D. (crXXXXXX-a) to log on the system anymore.
In /var/log/messages it seems that an ip address is negotiated but the dhcpcd client times out waiting for a vaild dhcp request. I tried connecting with 'dchpcd -t 180 eth1' but it still times out.
I know the ethernet card works and the eth0 interface is working fine because I can browse my local network.

OK. I must be in a parallel universe.  I have the exact same problem.  

I just installed e-smith over an old RedHat installation.  My system meets the Category_2 configuration as detailed in the user manual.  My NICs are on the approved list, and work in other machines.  The SME Server works fine as an internal server.  However, it will not perform functions as a gateway because the second NIC -- eth1 -- fails to install.  Swapping the NICs just causes the other NIC to not install.

Please let me know if you find anything solution to this problem.  Likewise, I will keep hunting and will post anything I find here.

BTW, I am connecting to AT&T Network (Mediaone).  Everything worked until I tried the new gateway configuration.  Bummer.

Solved my problem:  Asked the cable company to provision the MAC addresses for my new NIC.  Once done, the cable modem issued the IP address via DHCP.
