Non-Bootable SME 6 Custom
« Reply #15 on: January 01, 2006, 10:00:28 PM »
Same here. Downloaded the ISO twice.  Burned it on 3 separate burners. Attempted to boot it on 3 different burners.  This ISO just will not boot.

Would love to give it a go when it's fixed.

Best regards for the New Year.

THANK YOU FOR THE HARD WORK YOU HAVE DONE.
I did find the links on the cd and all went well when added from the link site. I am always amazed at the efforts that generous people share with begining useres like myself.

CC,

Thanks SOOO much for the updated ISO!  :-D
It's excellent!  A+++
Your hard work means ALOT to us here!

BTW - we downloaded and burned the ISO to cd at 16x and it worked fine.
Maybe the faster speeds are causing a prob.
Just a guess.

Again, Thanks!!!

Still can't boot this ISO
« Reply #19 on: January 11, 2006, 10:14:00 PM »
I really need some help here.  I have downloaded the custom ISO 3-times (to different PC's).  I have burned it a 8X on Taiyo Uden media on 3-different burners.  I have tried using Nero Express and CD BurnerXP.  I have attempted to boot it from Sony, Samsung, and Plextor CD players connected to 3-different PC's.

This ISO will not boot.  I am not new to burning ISO's and I do not have a problem booting the "stock" SME 6.01 on stated hardware.  I do not have a problem booting *any* other ISO's I have downloaded.

So, does anyone have a possible suggestion why some of you can boot it as expected and some of us can not?

I am anxious to celebrate the hard work that I'm sure went into the creation of this ISO!

Thanks!

I just used plain old IE 6 to download and used Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 to burn the cd.....if that helps....

I don't know what to say.  The only time I have had problems is when a download manager is used.

Just Kidding ...

Nice work Marco. Even a poor ignorant soul such as myself was able to make use of this. Got it installed and it works great .....

So when you going to fix all the bugs and release your Custom ISO of SME 7 ......(j/k)

Hey guys, just a heads up here, I used to work with Marco, and he is about as die hard as they come when it comes to his work. I am glad he finds the time in his busy schedule to help us lower techies out.

Thanks Again,

Welcome to the fun Richard!  I have been waiting to see how long it would take till you joined another message board!

On a side note, anyone using this version can install the latest updates via yum.  Just enter the command:
yum update and answer yes.

I am not sure if the following commands are needed, but they are suggested:
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

I guess I will start playing with SME 7 now that it is at "pre" status.  Hopefully, most of the best contribs have been ported to SME 7 and a SME 7 custom version can be built.

ISO Won't Boot - Resolution!
« Reply #24 on: January 13, 2006, 06:10:08 AM »
I just wanted to report back that I am now able to boot the custom ISO install.  Apparently there is an incompabibility with the legacy motherboards I am using (theory).

Anyway, I went here: http://linux.simple.be/tools/sbm and downloaded a floppy image for Smart Boot Manager.  Booted from the floppy, selected the cdrom as the boot source - worked perfectly!

Now happily running the custom ISO and I'm nice to my wife again.

Thank you for all the work that went into the ISO creation and for the help and suggestions I've gotten here.
