External Web Access to Ibays and Webmail Timing Out
« on: November 16, 2005, 05:47:53 PM »
This is wierd and I can't seem to find anything that addresses it by searching the forums.

Internal web access to ibays and webmail seems to work fine. External access to an ibay that has a virtual domain specified works both internally and externally (e.g., of the form www.ibayname.domain.ca). However, external access to an ibay using the form www.domain.ca/ibayname/ times out. Also, external access to webmail using www.domain.ca/webmail/ times out even though it is enabled (with https) and accessible locally.

The ibays in question all are set to public internet access no password required. When I set the ibay to public access with password required, I get the ibay login screen -- but when I enter the correct userid (ibayname) and password, I get a "forbidden" message.

The server is in server only mode. Ports 80 and 443 are forwarded to the server.

Does anyone have any suggestions about where to start looking to track this one down? I have another server set up in a similar manner (there are minor differences) at another site that works properly.

Thanks.

John

I'm having the same problem.  I think it started happening when I did a upgrade with yum.

I am totally embarassed

It turns out that there were a couple of problems that I incorrectly diagnosed as a single issue. I was trying to diagnose remotely with someone on-site doing the leg work.

It turns out that the "forbidden" message from i-bay access was a result of there being no index.html file to view, and seeing the directory listing is not allowed.

And it seems that the time-out problems (both webmail and ibay) were caused by the person at the other end not setting the Port 443 forwarding correctly on the router. I had a couple of ibays set to use https: and these were the ones causing problems.

Live and learn.
